Lake of the Woods Take a Kid Fishing Event
Spend some quality time with a little one and take them fishing!
Join us for this year’s event on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
The 2023 Lake of the Woods Take a Kid Fishing event will take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Sportsman’s Lodge on beautiful Lake of the Woods! This will mark the 25th year that the Lake of the Woods Chapter has hosted this event.
We hope to entertain 120 kids between 9 – 14 years of age. This program has been designed to teach kids the joy of fishing – a lifelong activity! The event is planned to start at 10:00 am. We ask the kids arrive no earlier than 9:00 am. After all of the kids are registered, they will be introduced to their guide. Each young fisherman or fisherwoman will receive a bag of goodies, which includes a drink, snack, take a kids fishing t-shirt, and a variety of prizes. We also would like you to send a sack lunch with your child. All boats will return to shore by 4 p.m. to Sportsman’s Lodge so all attendees can enjoy a delicious cookout. This will also include a wrap-up program and the awarding of the prizes. At the end of the days’ event you may pick up your child at Sportsman’s Lodge by 4:30 pm. We are asking that parents and guardians who attend the cookout pay a $3.00 donation.

The Lake of the Woods Take a Kid Fishing Chapter is excited to offer once again the opportunity for 14 year old participants to win a Minnesota Lifetime Fishing license. The licenses are funded by several generous businesses and individuals, and will be awarded as part of a 150-200 word essay contest titled: “What a lifetime fishing license would mean to me”. Please encourage your 14 year old child to submit an essay with their Take a Kid Fishing registration. All essays must be received by June 2. Winners will be announced on the day of the event and must be present to win. Winners are encouraged to volunteer at future Take a Kid Fishing events.
Click here to apply online. Applications must be submitted by June 9. Submit your application early by June 2 to be entered into our early bird drawing to win a kayak! The event is limited to the first 120 kids. You will be informed of your child’s acceptance by June 15th and will be provided with additional details at that time. We are happy to continue this fine tradition here in Lake of the Woods and look forward to seeing you soon! We hope you will encourage your child to participate in this event.

Supporter of the Year – Without our supporters, Take a Kid Fishing would not be possible. In addition to the committee members, supporters also serve roles such as guides, first mates, food prep and cooking, button making, set-up, and clean-up. The recipient of the award demonstrates efforts that go above and beyond the call of duty. They have also been part of the Take a Kid Fishing event for at least 10 years. Each supporter of the year receives an embroidered jacket from the committee.
